Bangalore Archdiocese Gets New Vicars General 04-01-2010

BANGALORE, Karnataka(SAR NEWS) --Archbishop Bernard Moras has appointed Father S. Jayanathan and Father C. Francis as vicars general of the Archdiocese of Bangalore with effect from January 1, 2010, for a period of 5 years. They replace Father T.S. Amruthraj and Father Joseph B. Francis.

Father Devadas has been appointed assistant financial administrator.

Jayanathan and Francis have been given responsibilities of various commissions including education, communication, legal and property matters.

Jayanathan was born on July 20, 1949, and ordained priest on June 6, 1976. Francis was born on May 10, 1959, and ordained priest on May 7, 1985. Both have completed 25 years of priesthood.

Vicars are canonically appointed officers who are delegated responsibilities by the Archbishop and who assist him in his pastoral and administrative work.

Bangalore Archdiocese, which has a Catholic population of over 400,000, covers Bangalore (Urban and Rural), Chickballapur, Kolar, Tumkur and Ramanagaram districts.
