KOLKATA, West Bengal(SAR NEWS) --“It has been 40 years since the Vatican Council II. It is high time we teach the faithful to use the Word Of God as the source of life,” said Bishop Salvador Lobo of Baruipur, at the inaugural Mass of the 13th general body meeting of the Indian Catechetical Association (ICA) at Nitika, Don Bosco, here February 11-13.

The theme of the meeting was ‘The Word of God as the Foundation for Catechesis’, inspired by the Bishops’ Synod on the Word of God 2008. The theme was further reflected from the catechetical point of view in the context of the persecution of Christians in Indian last year.

Bishop Lobo and 53 persons involved in faith formation in different regions and dioceses of India attended the meeting.

President of the ICA, Father Michael G., explained the dynamics of the meeting, which was inaugurated by Salesian Provincial Father Thomas Ellicherail.

The participants discussed the Scriptures and faith formation extensively even as several biblical and liturgical experts and resource persons presented papers on the various aspects of the theme.

A symposium was also organised on ‘The Word in Catechesis’ as experienced in slums, with the youth, in the basic Christian communities, Bible classes, inter-religious dialogue and in liturgy.

Next next ICA meeting has been planned at Velankanni in Tamil Nadu, February 2010, on theme ‘Popular devotions and faith formation’.
