BANGALORE, Karnataka (SAR NEWS) — St. Mary’s Basilica has been voted one of the seven wonders of Bangalore.

Bangalore Mirror, the Times of India’s Metro edition, conducted a poll featuring various historical buildings in Bangalore City.

The three-week poll featured artefacts that have a unique identity and that which have built a community. This included monuments, parks, places of worship and even a futuristic expressway. The polling was done through SMS and website votes.

The 18th Century iconic church is in the heart of Bangalore in the crowded Shivajinagar market area. The only church with a Basilica status in Karnataka state attracts millions of people of various faiths. The annual feast is celebrated on September 8. An extensive renovation was undertaken by former parish priest Father T. Jebamalai.

Besides St. Mary’s Basilica, the other wonders are the Vidhana Soudha, the Bull Temple, the Jamia Masjid, the Pyramid Valley, the Lalbagh Botanical Garden and the Bangalore Palace.
